Ujjayi Breath
Why do we practice Ujjayi Breath in Vinyasa Yoga?
Ujjayi Pranayama is a breathing technique that involves narrowing the base of the throat. Inhalations and exhalations are even and through the nostrils. The breath makes a soft hissing sound. This friction in the throat warms the air before it enters the lungs. The breath heats the body throughout the asana practice.
The result of stretching the breath is stretching the body.
Breath allows us to be present. Aware. Still. Yoga is truly a breathing practice. Where the breath goes, the mind follows.
